New signs and other stuff
Alton is learning new things every day. We have prayed with him every day since he was born, and this week he learned how to fold his hands and bow his head for prayer. He does it every time we pray and it is sooooo sweet to see.
We are still nursing and every morning when we nurse, we sit in the recliner in his room and I cover both of us with a blanket to keep warm. This morning Daddy got him out of bed and I was sitting the living room. Alton came in and started to play with his toys. After a few minutes, he decided he was ready to nurse, so he went into his room and got down the quilt that was hanging on the side of his crib and brought it into the living room and climbed into my lap with it. He pointed to me and signed milk.
I showed him the sign for diaper once, and now he uses it to tell us when his diaper is dirty. I know this is one of the signs for potty training readiness, what are the others? Does anyone know of a GOOD potty training book?
He is still obsessed with Santa Claus and points him out wherever he sees him. He carries a Santa Claus Christmas card around the house with him.

Hi Jen,
Alton is so smart! We started putting Ryan on the little potty early on just so he could get used to it. And let him look through "It's Potty Time" book. Here is the link. http://www.amazon.com/

He loved the little flush button. That's the only book we ever used. You know Alton's potty cycle. If you put him on the potty at those times he will soon catch on. Consistency is the key.
Happy potty training!
Here is mine, before you decide to go gung ho and take away diapers and really commit to it, make sure he is ready in ALL areas. We did read Potty Training in A Day, or something like that.... well you know how well that worked for us. But I do know others that it worked great for. Go to your library, there should be plenty to choose from. And I agree with the above post.. consistency is key. Of course my 4 yo still has bouts of having daily accidents, so maybe I'm not the best one for advice.
Oh! I am so glad I saw your post.
Your baby is signing so he's got a head start. The new Baby Signs Potty Training Kit (as seen on a recent episode of the CBS show THE DOCTORS) has a DVD that will teach Alton the potty routine and the signs he can use to tell you when he has to go. The kit comes with a very good parent guide written by child development experts Dr. Linda Acredolo and Susan Goodwyn, authors of Baby Signs, Baby Minds and Baby Hearts.
You can purchase the kit and download FREE motivational charts and certificates at www.PottyTrainWithBabysigns.com.
Best of luck to you and I hope to be reading about your successes very soon!

PS Before disposable diapers came along, 95% of all babies in the US were potty trained by 18 months! Now most children are 3 or 4 before they potty train. Amazing how things have changed.
